By Pastor Steve Carr
The book of Genesis is not only a record of the beginning of mankind, but it also establishes the Bible’s foundational teachings, which is then communicated throughout the entire rest of Scripture. Genesis begins with the creation of the world, the origins of humanity, and the introduction of sin through Adam and Eve.
From there, it chronicles the consequences of that fall—violence, judgment, and the great flood, followed by God’s covenant with Noah. The Genesis record clearly reveals that men always have a choice to obey or to rebel against God. The narrative then shifts to the calling of Abraham and his choice to believe God’s promise, which brought forth the formation of a chosen people through his descendants: Isaac, Jacob, and Jacob’s twelve sons, especially Joseph, whose rise to power in Egypt sets the stage for the next chapter in Israel’s history.
Each of these characters also made their choice to believe and follow God’s commands, through their many struggles of faith. Through family drama, divine encounters, and God’s many promises, Genesis reveals God’s desire to bless humanity, and redeem a broken world through His covenant relationship with men. Understanding the message of Genesis, is one you don’t want to miss! I’m sure you will find a great blessing in these 770 pages of teaching and encouragement!
