Archaeology - Proving the Truth of Scripture - Part 3
Did giants ever live on the earth as the Bible teaches?
Ancient Egyptian Records Confirm Giants Lived Long Ago Just as the Bible Declared!

This ancient Egyptian document known as the Papyrus Anastasi I from Egypt’s New Kingdom, which covered from approximately 1570 to 1069 BC. This papyrus describes the Shoshu people, a group described as giants and terrifying to the surrounding people. This description did not describe gods or were they metaphors. The papyrus was an Egyptian administrative text describing real groups of people that were encountered in the land east of Egypt, which would have been exactly where the Bible declared that these giants existed. The Scriptures declare in Genesis 6:4 that “there were giants in the earth in those days.” Scripture does not present this fact as legend or these giants as symbolic, but as real history.
The Shoshu people described in the papyrus were said to be extraordinarily tall, about eight feet in height. The document emphasized that these people inspired fear among all who saw them. This detail matters, because the Bible tells us that this was the reaction of the Children of Israel when they encountered the giants in Numbers 13. The Israelite spies reported that they felt like grasshoppers by comparison to these giants. Here the Bible and this papyrus are in total agreement. See also (Deut. 2:11; Deut. 2:20).
You remember also that the Bible relates the fact of Og, king of Bashan in Deuteronomy 3:11 where it records that Og’s bed was made of iron and measured about thirteen feet long. Og ruled in the very same land associated with the Shoshu, the Rephaim, and the Anakim. Remember that King Og was not a mythological individual. He was an actual living giant that was defeated by Israel through the power of God.
We also have Goliath recorded in the Bible who was slain by King David. The Scripture also described the family members of Goliath as also being giants in (2 Samual 21:16; 18; 20; 22). Papyrus Anastasi I confirms that surrounding nations knew them, feared them, and documented them. Also remember that the Bible and Egyptian history are not borrowing from each other. They are independently reporting the same world. God’s Word is true and history confirms this fact.
